Watt Bike RacingOn 22nd October Matthew Robinson and Louie Dillon, two of the Club’s promising young riders travelled to Baldock for the first of the Youth challenge events on the Watt Bikes. These are exercise bikes that are linked to a computer screen. The events they took part in were a 750 metre sprint, a team race with each rider doing 250metres,and finally a longer distance 1000 or 750 metres depending upon the age of competitors. Matt and Louie both did really well – see next newsletter for full report.
Following on from the success of the first Wattbike Racing evening at Baldock two more events have been planned:
Monday 30th November Maldon & Dist CC at Maldon 7-9pm
Thursday 3rd December West Suffolk Wheelers at Bury St. Edmunds 7-9pm Entry fee £2 payable on the day
I am in the process of organising our own Watt Bike event at Colchester for late Nov / December – watch this space.
The events will be run as an Omnium featuring a 500metre time trial, Team Sprint and Scratch Race and if time a devil as well. Only Youth riders in age categories A, B and C will be allowed to enter due to the size of the Wattbikes.
Entries must be in advance and there is a maximum of 20 on each evening. Please contact Mark Wyer markwyer@britishcycling.org.uk for an entry form but make sure you copy me in if attending so that I know who is going along.
The 500m times will go towards the winter long Eastern Region 500m Challenge. The current leaders are:
| Cat | Gender | Name | Club | Time |
| A | Female | Victoria Williamson | BC PM | 33.51 |

Cycling Time Trials
If you are 12 and under you are not allowed to time trial on open public roads but once you are 12 you may with your parent’s consent take part in time trials. Many will start off by doing one of the Club’s Wednesday evening 10’s and with my daughter I cycled behind her on her first couple of events to make sure she was riding safely and knew where the course was.
A fantastic event to enter is the GHS 10 – this is a Youth national time trial where the best riders compete from each region and go through to a national final. This year the local event was at Maldon in June but we will have to wait a while for the 2010 information to be released. Further info on the RTTC web site:- http://www.rttc.org.uk
Club Runs
The Club organises a number of Club runs on Sundays – details on the Club Web Site and for those older youths that are confident and can ride at a steady pace for 30 to 40 miles including a stop then you might well enjoy joining one of these rides. The Club would need a parent to attend or have a parental consent form and be confident about your ability.
That’s all for now.
