Grass Track Report 13th July 2009

This week we had another great week's grass track racing in what were sunny and warm conditions but with a strong breeze giving riders a headwind up the back straight.
The first race of the night was the under 8's with the 150metre event and this was won by Oliver Partner ahead of Harrison Brock, Emily Jackson, Liam Paton, Ellie Mae Pledger, Odie Hankin Appleby and Daniel Hall. The second time this group raced over the same distance Emily came out just ahead of Ellie Mae with Harrison in third followed by Liam. The third event for this group was a Madison race with Harrison's team just winning ahead of Liam's team with Daniel's team in third. Finally this group contested a closely fought Kieran race won by Liam just beating Ellie Mae with Oliver in third place.
The first under 12's freewheel scratch race was won by Jordon West just beating Daniel Gilbert into second with George Hindle in third followed by Bethan York, Hannah West, Beth Coiley, Leon Shurlock-Booth, Nathan King and Calista Arthey. This group was then competed in a handicap with Liam Paton just coming through ahead of Hannah West and fast finishing Jordon West in third place. This group then took part in Kieran Heats and a Kieran Final. Heat one proved comfortable for the Daniel Gilbert and George Campling and Heat two saw Jordon win through ahead of George Hindle. In the final if the Kieran Jordon took the honours ahead of George Campling with Daniel in third place.
The third group saw the under 12's fixed wheel group riding flat out over a one lap event and Oliver Kensdale winning ahead of Nicholas Woodhead, George Campling, Myles Doran, Oscar Woodhead and Ellie Duley. The next time this group raced over a one lap handicap with Oliver Kensdale winning again ahead of Nicholas with Ellie in third place. The final race for this group was another one lap handicap with this time Myles Doran taking the honours ahead of Oliver Kensdale and George Campling in third.
The final group of fixed wheelers containing the most experienced riders saw the first event - a one lap scratch race finish with a really tight finish with William Gildersleeves winning just ahead of Elliot Jarvis followed by Joe Jackson, Sam Jackson, James Jackson, Kyle Clutterbuck, Lochie Hankin Appleby, Rory Smith and Sam Taylor. This group then competed over a one lap handicap with Joe Jackson just winning ahead of James followed closely by Elliot and Kyle. The final event for this group was a ''Devil Take the Hindmost'' with the last riders over the line being called out until there were just five left to sprint for the finish. This event was won by James with Lochie in second, followed by Elliot, Joe and Sam Jackson.
The evening finished up with a fun relay race. Next week sees grass track continue - meet at 6.15pm - all you need is a cycle helmet and £1 entry. Further information from David Triggs 01206 571614.
