As the riders were signing on in the gathering gloom it seemed inevitable it would rain but just how many races we would complete was the debate among the hardy parents.
We started promptly with the 7’s and under riding a very competitive 150metre race with Harrison Brock just finishing ahead of Theo Warren, Daniel Hall, Emily Jackson and Liam Paton. When this group raced for a second time Liam Paton came home first ahead of Emily, Daniel, Theo and Joe Cole.
Group two was a freewheel group of under 12’s with riders competing in a one lap scratch race. The winner was Daniel Gilbert ahead of Bethan York, Ellie Duley, George Hindle, Beth Coiley, Leon Sherlock Booth, Sam Taylor, Calista Arthey and Thomas Meyer. This group raced for a second time just before the rain came down with Daniel winning a closer battle just ahead of Bethan, George and Thomas.
Group three consisted of the 10 and 11 year old fixed wheel riders with their first race being a very close 300 metre scratch race won by Lochie Hankin Appleby just ahead of Adam Buckingham, William Gildersleeves, Caitlin Douglas and Molly Bowen. Group four was the 8 and 9 year old fixed wheelers with the 300 metre scratch being won by Joe Jackson ahead of Sam Jackson, Oliver Kensdale, Rory Smith, George Campling, Callum Vincent, Myles Doran and Silas Warren. By the time groups 3 and 4 combined for the final ride of the night the rain was starting to strengthen and lighting was flashing all around. The final handicap race was won by Joe Jackson ahead of Oliver Kensdale, Adam Buckingham and Callum Vincent.
Finally the group five the eldest category raced a one lap scratch race won by James Jackson ahead of Nicholas Woodhead Louis Dillon and Ellis Smith.
