30/07/2009 09:34:54
Despite the day's heavy showers a hardy group of grass track riders gathered for last night's event. A break in the clouds allowed the sun to shine the grass dried out and some hard fought races ensued.
The night's racing commenced with a mixed fixed and free wheel 200m event for the under eights, Daniel Hall out sprinted his rivals to take first place followed by newcomer Isabel Monk, Maddie Chittock, Oliver Partner and Emma Buckingham. The under 8's next race was a relay, Oliver Partner led his team home in first place, followed by Daniel Hall and Oscar Woodhead. Next a keirin provided the youngsters with an opportunity to show off their sprinting skills. The group follows a pacer who pulls off the track with about 200m to go; this is the sign for the riders to sprint for the line. Top honours went to Isabel Monk, followed by Daniel Hall and Maddie Chittock.
This groups final race was a handicapped 200m race won by Maddie Chittock closely followed by; Emma Buckingham, Isabel Monk, Oliver Partner, Daniel Hall and Mark Newey.
The senior group of ten riders started with a 400m fixed scratch race, this was won by Adam Buckingham in front of Jonathan West and Nicholas Woodhead, closely followed by the bunch made up of James Jackson, Jordan West, Kyle Clutterbuck, Hannah West, George Campling, Oscar Woodhead and Mark Newey. The senior’s raced again over the same distance but with a handicap based on their previous race, this time Jonathan West won closely followed by Nicholas Woodhead and Hannah West. Next the group rode a keirin. James Jackson powered his way to first place with Kyle Clutterbuck second and Nicholas Woodhead third.
The final race of the evening was a three lap point's race for the older riders, maintaining a good pace and sprinting for points every half lap provided a real challenge for the riders. Once all the points had been added up first place was awarded to Nicholas Woodhead, followed by Jordan West and Jonathan West.
